The UC Office of the President manages several university software and hardware agreements to maximize savings. UC has long expected that its physicians will remain free to advise patients on all treatment options and that patients will have access to comprehensive services. However, the language used in some agreements with other health systems appears to be contrary to these expectations. In parallel with the future efforts of the working group, the university is therefore working to amend the current agreements to clarify the expectations of UC interns and health professionals for care in a-UC health facilities. In addition, the university has developed interim guidelines that regulate new agreements and renewals of expired contracts, which are considered essential for UC`s clinical and academic missions. Support and communication with UCOP regarding the software used by UC and possible new software agreements are facilitated by itsc – ITSC – IT Sourcing Committee and SSG Software Services Group (formally TAS). ITSC – SSG is made up of representatives appointed by each UC institution. Efforts and initiatives are comprehensive and collaborative and coordinated with their constituents and peers throughout the UC system. The Full Access Working Group (WGCA) has completed its work. The WGCA is one of three measures announced by the university in August to allay concerns about certain agreements with A-UC medical institutions, including creditor hospitals. The university recognizes the wide range of complex issues.
UC`s medical centres are often full and agreements that allow UC providers to treat patients in non-UC hospitals and clinics allow more patients to receive quality medical care from UC. In addition, hospitals in underserved areas have difficulty recruiting certain types of providers.
